A beautifully primitive antique French hardwood cutting board dating to the early 20th century, circa 1900–1930.

Cut from a substantial single plank with an integrated paddle-style handle, the board has developed the kind of quiet patina that can only come from decades of actual use: visible knife marks, knots, old pinholes, softened edges and subtle variations throughout the grain.

The simple rectangular form and slightly irregular handmade handle give it an understated French farmhouse character without feeling overly rustic. Equally beautiful leaning against a kitchen backsplash, hanging from its original handle opening, stacked with other antique boards, or used as a serving surface.

A genuinely useful object that has become sculptural with age.

CONDITION

Good antique condition with substantial authentic age and use consistent with a utilitarian piece of this period.

Surface scratches, knife marks, small old pinholes, knots, edge wear, discoloration and irregularities throughout. These are considered part of the board’s character and patina rather than damage.

Please review all photographs closely, as they form part of the condition description.

DĒSSO NOTE

One of those beautifully simple pieces that makes a room feel collected without trying too hard. We love antique French kitchen boards layered behind pottery, propped against stone or tile, or simply hanging alone as a piece of functional folk art.

The dry pale wood and decades of honest wear are exactly what make this one special — we would leave the patina untouched.
