A rare complete antique trousseau linen set, entirely hand embroidered and remarkably intact after more than a century.

The set includes one large tablecloth and twelve matching napkins, all worked by hand in fine cross-stitch on crisp antique white / cream linen.

The tablecloth is framed by an elaborate scrolling border in warm brown, punctuated with vivid floral embroidery — full roses, sunflowers and leafy sprays in pink, red, yellow and green, along with small geometric blue and orange diamond motifs. The effect is decorative without feeling precious: graphic, romantic and wonderfully handmade.

Each of the twelve napkins carries a coordinating corner motif and delicate hemstitched border, making the full set feel beautifully considered when laid together.

Traditionally, trousseau linens were created and collected over years in preparation for marriage, often becoming some of the most treasured textiles in a family. Complete sets are increasingly difficult to find because napkins and tablecloths are so often separated over generations.

This one deserves to be used rather than hidden away — for a long lunch, a holiday table, an intimate dinner, or simply because beautiful things should have another life.

Chairish identifies the set as mid-19th century and French, with a 60" × 80" tablecloth and twelve matching napkins. The seller notes that the embroidery is fully hand worked and the set remains in very good condition overall.
