Vintage Albert Kessler Majolica Asparagus Pitcher — Sculptural Vegetable Jug

Asparagus, but make it architecture.

This vintage Albert Kessler pitcher is modeled as a bundle of asparagus stalks, with sculptural relief and glossy majolica-style glazing that gives the entire piece texture and dimension.

It has exactly the kind of playful old-world character that makes vegetable-form ceramics so collectible.

Use it as a water pitcher, vase, utensil holder, or simply let it sit on an open shelf with the rest of your collected kitchen ceramics.

Functional enough to justify.

Strange enough to love.

DIMENSIONS

Please refer to measurement photographs for exact dimensions and scale.

Comparable vintage asparagus pitchers commonly fall around the 7"–8" height range, but I’d keep your listing tied to the actual measurements shown in your photos rather than infer the size.

CONDITION

Good vintage condition overall.

The sculptural asparagus detailing and glaze present well, with light age-appropriate surface wear consistent with previous use.

Majolica-style ceramics can show minor glaze variation, crazing, or small production irregularities as part of their vintage character.

Please review all photographs carefully for exact condition.

DĒSSO NOTE

Vegetable pottery is a slippery slope.

First it is one asparagus pitcher.

Then suddenly the cabbage, artichoke and tomato pieces all start making sense too.

Use this one for flowers, utensils, water—or absolutely nothing at all.

It already has enough personality sitting there empty.
