A wonderfully sculptural vintage Danish upholstered lounge chair with the low, enveloping silhouette traditionally associated with the French crapaud — or “toad” — chair.

Its rounded back flows directly into the arms, creating a cocoon-like shape that feels both elegant and extremely inviting. The compact profile gives it presence without taking over a room, making it particularly good as an accent chair in a living room, bedroom, dressing room or reading corner.

What makes this piece especially interesting is the meeting of two design languages: the romantic, curvaceous form of the traditional crapaud chair interpreted through a more restrained Danish sensibility.

A beautiful counterpoint to clean modern furniture, walnut, chrome, stone or contemporary architecture.

DĒSSO NOTE

We love a chair that looks slightly strange from across the room and unbelievably comfortable once you get closer.

The rounded crapaud shape gives this one just enough drama, while its compact scale keeps it incredibly usable.

We’d put it next to something completely different — a brutalist side table, a chrome floor lamp, or a very clean walnut cabinet — and let the curves do the work.
