A striking vintage studio pottery vase with a richly layered drip glaze that feels almost geological up close.

The tall baluster form is finished in cascading sage and emerald green over warm amber and brown, with flashes of turquoise blue and frothy white bubble glaze moving across the surface. The result is wonderfully organic — somewhere between volcanic rock, mineral deposits and a landscape in ceramic form.

Its classical silhouette, flared neck and substantial scale give the piece real presence, while the expressive glaze keeps it from feeling formal.

Displayed on its original dark wooden stand, it works beautifully as a sculptural object on a console, pedestal, entry table or collected shelf.

An especially good piece for interiors that mix traditional forms with something a little stranger and more artistic.

The exact studio is unidentified. The glaze and form are consistent with European art pottery traditions associated with France and Belgium; Chairish currently lists the country of origin as Belgium.
