Originally made for fondue. Personally, I think they were waiting for apéro.

These vintage Gien France divided ceramic plates were originally designed as fondue plates, with separate compartments to keep sauces, accompaniments, and bites neatly divided.

But in a modern kitchen, they make an almost perfect French apéro plate.

Olives in one section. Cashews in another. Cornichons, radishes, cheese cubes, charcuterie, tapenade, marinated vegetables, little crackers — everyone gets their own perfectly organized plate of snacks.

Finished in a beautiful deep olive-green glaze, the sculptural divided design feels surprisingly contemporary while still carrying all the charm of vintage French tableware.

Made in France by Gien, one of France’s historic faïence manufacturers, these plates date to approximately the 1970s and measure about 9 inches across.

They’re substantial enough for fondue or raclette night, but I love them even more for casual entertaining: set out four different apéro plates, pour the wine, and dinner can wait.

Sold individually. Four matching plates currently available.

Good vintage condition.

No chips or cracks are reported.

Because these are vintage pieces, subtle variation may exist from plate to plate.

Please review photographs closely.

DĒSSO NOTE

Technically: fondue plates.

Practically: the French answer to a snack plate.

Olives. Cashews. Cornichons. Cheese. A little saucisson. Something pickled. Something you bought because the packaging was pretty.

Pour a glass of wine and suddenly it’s apéro.

I have four matching plates available, and honestly they look even better together.
