Tiny French plates with a full jungle happening on them.
This set of 2 vintage Gien France “Tamarin” small plates features the wonderfully lush, slightly eccentric tropical imagery that makes this discontinued pattern so collectible.
Each petite plate is decorated with an exotic jungle composition of greenery, flowers, desert plants, and playful tamarins, all rendered in the richly detailed style associated with Gien faïence.
At approximately 5 inches across, they were designed as small plates / wine coasters, but I love them for modern entertaining.
Use one beneath a wine bottle or carafe. Add olives, cashews, little cheeses, cornichons, chocolates, or individual apéro bites. Mix them into a table setting as tiny bread plates. Or simply display the four together because the pattern deserves to be seen.
Produced by Faïencerie de Gien in France, the Tamarin pattern dates to the late 1990s and is now discontinued.
A very French way to make even the smallest snack unnecessarily beautiful.
Sold as a complete set of 2.

DĒSSO NOTE
Technically wine coasters.
But give me olives, cashews, cheese, a glass of wine, and suddenly we have four tiny French apéro plates.
The Tamarin pattern is exactly my kind of Gien — traditional French faïence that somehow wandered into the jungle.
