A wonderfully exuberant vintage ceramic cockatoo planter by Great Plains, USA, dating to the mid-20th century.
The sculptural white cockatoo perches on a richly modeled flowering tree-stump base, surrounded by dimensional green leaves and botanical details. Its glossy, colorful glaze and wonderfully theatrical form give it the decorative spirit of traditional Majolica, with the playful tropical glamour associated with mid-century Regency interiors.
At 20 inches tall, it has real presence — substantial enough to read as sculpture while remaining functional as a planter or cachepot.
Beautiful styled alone on a console, pedestal or large table, or planted with something trailing for a little extra drama.
A wonderfully unusual piece for a collected interior — tropical, sculptural and just eccentric enough.
