A joyful vintage majolica bowl featuring a sculptural toucan emerging from a lush surround of overlapping tropical leaves. Hand-painted in vivid yellow, deep black and layered greens, the piece captures the exuberant naturalism associated with Portuguese decorative ceramics of the late 20th century.
Its dimensional leaf-form bowl can hold fruit, flowers or a small plant, although the piece is equally compelling displayed on its own as a tropical ceramic sculpture. The dramatic bird, richly molded foliage and glossy glaze make it an instant focal point for a console, dining table or collected interior.
Attributed to Portugal based on its form, glaze and decorative treatment. No confirmed maker has been identified.
As with all vintage pieces, subtle variations and traces of age are part of its individual history and character.
