Vintage Neuwirth Portugal Majolica-Style Fruit Plates — Pear, Grapes & Stone Fruit, Set of 3

Three little pieces of the Portuguese orchard.

This vintage set of three Neuwirth ceramic plates, made in Portugal, features wonderfully dimensional fruit and foliage molded directly into the surface and finished with soft, painterly glaze.

Rather than a flat printed pattern, the pears, grapes, fruit, leaves, and branches are all raised in relief, giving each plate the tactile, slightly imperfect quality that makes vintage Portuguese majolica-style pottery so charming.

Each plate has its own botanical composition:

Pear Plate
Two golden-yellow pears surrounded by layers of beautifully molded green leaves.

Grape Plate
A dimensional cluster of soft purple grapes framed by vine leaves and stems.

Stone Fruit Plate
Three warm golden-orange fruits surrounded by broad green leaves, giving this plate a softer orchard feel.

Together, the three feel collected rather than matched — exactly how I like vintage ceramics.

Use them as dessert or appetizer plates, for little apéro servings, or display all three together on a kitchen wall or open shelving.

The undersides retain their original labels reading “Made in Portugal exclusively for Neuwirth.”

The measuring photograph shows the plates at approximately 9 inches across. 

CONDITION

Very good pre-owned vintage condition overall. The original seller also describes the set as being in very good pre-owned condition.

There is visible age-related crazing to the glaze, particularly noticeable on the backs, along with some natural variation and wear to the hand-applied color on the raised fruit and leaves. These characteristics are consistent with vintage glazed pottery and are part of the pieces' character.

No major structural damage is apparent in the supplied photographs.
