Vintage Neuwirth Portugal Reticulated Fruit Bowl — Hand-Painted Green & White Porcelain

A fruit bowl that actually understood the assignment.
This vintage Neuwirth porcelain bowl was made in Portugal with a beautifully reticulated, or pierced, openwork design that allows air to circulate around fruit and vegetables while making the entire piece feel wonderfully light and decorative.
The bowl is finished in creamy white with a scalloped green rim, hand-painted floral decoration at the center, and green detailing tracing the open latticework.
At approximately 10 inches across and 4 inches high, it has enough scale to work beautifully as a kitchen or dining-table centerpiece without feeling oversized.
Fill it with lemons, pears, tomatoes, or whatever came home from the market — or leave it empty and let the pierced pattern do the work.
It is functional vintage pottery, but also one of those pieces that makes even a pile of fruit look considered.
Made in Portugal for Neuwirth.

DĒSSO NOTE
Fruit bowls are usually where design goes to die.
This one gets a pass.
The green scalloped edge, little painted flowers, and openwork sides are exactly enough detail to make a bowl of lemons look like you planned the whole kitchen around them.
