Simple, sweet, and very easy to live with.

This vintage Portugal for Neuwirth ceramic pitcher has a tall cylindrical silhouette finished in a soft white glaze and scattered with delicate hand-painted foliage and small blue-and-yellow flowers.

The decoration feels loose and almost sketch-like rather than overly formal — little green branches, tiny blue blossoms, and a larger blue-and-yellow flower appearing almost randomly around the body.

At approximately 7 inches tall, it is petite enough for a shelf or bedside table but still perfect for a handful of garden flowers, herbs, or a few loose stems.

The slim cylindrical form also makes it a lovely small water or milk pitcher, although I especially like it used as a vase. A few chamomile stems, little daisies, or herbs would be plenty.

The underside is hand-marked “Portugal for Neuwirth Co.” and numbered 233/03.

A quiet little piece of Portuguese vintage pottery that does not need to shout to be charming.

DĒSSO NOTE

This is the kind of little vintage piece that makes a room feel collected without trying too hard.

I would put three or four tiny flowers in it — nothing elaborate — and leave it on a nightstand, kitchen shelf, or little wood table.
