Vintage Portuguese Hand-Painted Floral Serving Tray — Portugal, c. 1985

A wonderfully playful vintage Portuguese ceramic serving tray, hand-painted with stylized burgundy flowers, colorful foliage and delicate black flourishes.

The long, narrow body is framed by a softly scalloped edge highlighted in fresh green, while pierced handles at either end make the piece both decorative and functional. The slightly irregular painted details give it the charm of individually decorated European pottery rather than something overly polished or mass-produced.

The underside is hand-inscribed Portugal, with what appears to be a date of 1985, placing the piece in the late 20th century.

Perfect for olives, aperitivo snacks, fruit, sweets or small bites — but equally good left empty on a coffee table, console or bar simply for the color.

DĒSSO NOTE

The shape is what makes this one for me. It’s unusually long and narrow, which makes it fantastic layered into a table rather than taking over it. The almost-folk quality of the flowers against that green border feels very Southern European — colorful without becoming precious.

I’d use it for olives and little bites at cocktail hour, or leave it on a rattan or dark wood table purely as an object.
