A charming vintage Portuguese hand-painted ceramic chamber candlestick inspired by traditional 17th-century Portuguese faiança.

The broad saucer-form base is decorated in colorful polychrome motifs, including a whimsical bird, botanical detailing, patterned borders, and a sculptural loop handle. A raised central candle socket makes it both functional and highly decorative.

The underside is marked:

“110
SEC. XVII
HAND PAINTED IN PORTUGAL
FOR NAN FREITAS IMPORTS”

The “Sec. XVII” marking refers to the 17th-century decorative style that inspired the design, rather than the age of the piece itself. This example is most consistent with Portuguese revival ceramics produced during the later 20th century, likely circa 1970s–1980s.

A great little piece for a collected tabletop, bedside vignette, dining table, or shelf.

DĒSSO NOTE

A tiny piece with a lot of personality. We love the combination of traditional Portuguese faiança references with the playful little bird and folk-inspired color palette. It feels collected rather than precious — exactly the kind of object that works beautifully mixed with antique wood, majolica, silver, and modern pieces.
