A tiny Portuguese basket that took the ceramic part very seriously.

This vintage RCCL Portugal decorative basket is formed entirely from glazed ceramic, with delicate pierced openwork creating the illusion of woven lattice.

The creamy white body is finished with deep cobalt-blue edging, tiny hand-painted blue buds and green stems, while the center features a wonderfully loose floral motif in blue and leafy green.

Two sculptural twisted handles rise above the bowl, making the whole piece feel somewhere between a miniature garden basket and a very charming piece of folk pottery.

Perfect for wrapped candies, jewelry, soaps, small treasures or simply sitting beautifully on an open shelf.

The underside is marked RCCL / Made in Portugal / Hand Painted, along with a handwritten production number.

Likely late 20th century, consistent with other documented RCCL Portuguese pottery.

6" W × 6" D × 5.5" H including handles

Basket body itself is approximately 3" high.

The original measurement photographs indicate roughly six inches across and around five to six inches in total height.

CONDITION

Very good vintage condition based on the photographs.

The glaze remains glossy and the pierced ceramic work and handles appear intact. No obvious major chips, cracks or repairs are visible in the source photographs.

As with all vintage hand-painted pottery, slight irregularities in glaze, brushwork and construction are part of its character.

Please review all photographs closely for condition.

DĒSSO NOTE

I have a very specific weakness for objects pretending to be made from another material.

A ceramic basket pretending to be woven? Sold.

This one is especially good tucked onto a kitchen shelf, filled with little lemons, soaps or jewelry — or left completely empty so you can actually see all that pierced work.
